Can you spare a few hours learning how to save a life? Thanks to Dale Montgomery, now you have the chance. Dale is a paramedic, a 107IST and a member of Old Growth FC. You may remember Dale’s efforts last year helped to save the life of a fellow footy player, Gheorghe Lupu of Celtic FC:
Dale’s efforts didn’t stop there. Inspired by this event, as well as by his experiences as a paramedic with American Medical Response, Dale spearheaded an initiative to offer CPR/AED classes to 107IST members, beginning with members of TAFC soccer teams. In the last three months, Dale has offered three CPR/AED classes at the fanladen. Thanks to the support of the 107IST and of AMR, the classes are free to 107IST members and TAFC team members. Classes have been limited to eight people, given the size of the fanladen and the space required for training.
Thanks to partnership with the Timbers front office, we’re now able to expand course offerings. Dale will be training JELD-WEN staff and 107ISTs every month. Most courses will be offered in the Community Room at JELD-WEN, which will allow for up to sixteen members to receive CPR/AED training at a time. With the combined support of the 107IST, AMR, and the Portland Timbers, along with Dale’s generous volunteering of his expertise, we plan to be able to have over 150 people trained in administering CPR and in the use of automated external defibrillators.
If you are interested in getting trained, you can participate free of charge if you are a 107IST member. Training dates are listed below; more will be added later in the year. Click on one of the dates below to sign up:
Our sincere thanks to American Medical Response for donating equipment; to the Portland Timbers for donating meeting space; to the 107IST for supporting certification fees; and most of all to Dale Montgomery, who selflessly donates his time and expertise to make these courses a reality.
